From Passover to the Cross
From Passover to the Cross
There is a thread that runs through Scripture from Genesis to Revelation.
It is the thread of sacrifice.
The thread of covenant.
The thread of redemption.
The thread of blood.
And ultimately, it leads us to Jesus.
THE LIFE IS IN THE BLOOD
Leviticus 17:11 tells us that the life of the flesh is in the blood.
Blood represents life.
When blood was poured out in sacrifice, life was given.
This helps us understand the seriousness of sin and the greatness of redemption.
Sin brings death.
But God, in mercy, provided sacrifice.
From the beginning, He was revealing that redemption would cost a life.
THE PASSOVER LAMB
In Exodus 12, Israel stood on the edge of deliverance.
God instructed each household to take a lamb without blemish, sacrifice it, and apply the blood to the doorposts.
Then He said:
“When I see the blood I will pass over you…”
— Exodus 12:13 NASB
The people were not protected because they were stronger than the Egyptians.
They were not protected because they had earned favor.
They trusted the provision God gave them.
The lamb died.
The blood was applied.
And God brought His people out of bondage.
JESUS IS THE LAMB
Centuries later, John the Baptist saw Jesus and declared:
“Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”
— John 1:29 NASB
The picture became clear.
The sacrifices were pointing forward.
The Passover was pointing forward.
The covenant was pointing forward.
Jesus is the Lamb.
He did not simply come to teach about redemption.
He became the sacrifice.
He willingly gave His life.
THE BLOOD OF THE COVENANT
At the Last Supper, Jesus took the cup and said:
“This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood.”
— Luke 22:20 NASB
His Blood speaks of covenant.
We are not only forgiven.
We are brought into relationship.
We belong to Him.
We are brought near to the Father.
The barrier of sin has been addressed.
The way has been opened.
REDEEMED AND BROUGHT NEAR
Paul writes:
“In Him we have redemption through His blood…”
— Ephesians 1:7 NASB
And again:
“…you who previously were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.”
— Ephesians 2:13 NASB
This is the heart of redemption.
God does not merely rescue us from something.
He brings us to Himself.
We are brought near.
We are reconciled.
We are cleansed.
We belong.
THE BLOOD IS NOT A FORMULA
There is an important truth to remember.
The Blood of Jesus is not a spiritual phrase to be repeated mechanically.
Our confidence is not in words alone.
Our confidence is in Jesus.
The Blood speaks because the Lamb gave His life.
The power is found in the finished work of Christ.
When we speak of the Blood, we are remembering what He accomplished.
Forgiveness.
Redemption.
Covenant.
Reconciliation.
Victory.
THE WORD OF OUR TESTIMONY
Revelation declares:
“And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony…”
— Revelation 12:11 NASB
Our testimony is not about how strong we are.
It is about how faithful He is.
We testify:
Jesus saved me.
Jesus redeemed me.
Jesus forgave me.
Jesus brought me near.
Jesus is faithful.
Jesus is Lord.
A MOMENT OF REFLECTION
There may be places in your life where the voice of accusation still seems louder than the voice of redemption.
Old failures.
Old shame.
Old regret.
But the cross speaks a better word.
If you are in Christ, your past does not have greater authority than His finished work.
The Blood of the Lamb declares that the price has been paid.
You have been bought.
You have been cleansed.
You have been brought near.
MEDITATE
I do not stand before God because of my own righteousness.
I stand because of Jesus.
I am not redeemed by my own effort.
I am redeemed through Christ.
I am not held by the authority of my past.
I belong to the Lamb.
PRAYER
Father, thank You for sending Your Son.
Thank You for the Lamb who gave His life.
Thank You for forgiveness, redemption, covenant, and access through Jesus.
Teach me to live with my confidence fully in Christ and never in religious formulas or human effort.
Where shame has spoken louder than grace, bring me back to the truth of the cross.
Where fear has spoken louder than covenant, remind me that I belong to You.
Where I have forgotten the price of redemption, restore wonder and gratitude in my heart.
Holy Spirit, keep Jesus at the center of my faith, my prayer, my ministry, and my life.
May my testimony always point back to the Lamb.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.
